Averie Jean

Averie Jean Aldrich

She was born at 8:19 weighing in at 9lbs 12.3oz and measuring 23 1/4″ (although there are some conflicting numbers between the hospital and the first doctor visit).

Her first name is something we’ve liked for a long time (although spelled a bit different than originally) but her middle name comes from Rachel’s mother’s middle name.

Some pics from her first few days of life:

Oregon Coast to Seaside

Tuesday was relaxing.  We got up and had the continental breakfast (we made it a point to eat itevery day, no sense spending money on a meal that was included with your hotel).  We took our time checking out and headed to do laundry.  Since we’re here for 3 weeks we intentionally only packed enough for 1 to lighten the load. This only took us a little over an hour (thank you 45lb dryers!) which was just about perfect since right then we got a call to meet at Fudruckers for lunch.  “Sounds good!” we said and headed over.

ecola-state-parkAfter lunch (Michael at a 1lb burger…) with the family (George, Stacie, Mom, Dad, Michael, Michelle, Rachel and myself) everyone took a leisurely drive through the countryside to get a good view of Mt hood.  We stopped outside a ranch of some sort where we could see it pretty clearly.

Here, we said our goodbyes (I think Rachel and Michelle were the most saddened) and struck out for the coast.  We had already been to Cannon beach and south to Tullamook but we hadn’t made it to Ecola State Park and we figured, since we had the time, what better way to get to Seattle than to take the coast the whole way.

Sunset at Ecola was amazing.  However; since we started out so late we only made it as far as Seaside, which turned out to be a very cute town but extremely touristy.  There we stayed at the Sandy Cove Inn which was adorable.  It was family owned and apparently had been purchased and renovated by the current owners about 2 years ago.  It was one of those theme places, where every room has a theme.

Thus ended our first real night on the road.

Thank you Everyone!

One and a half years of planning, four months of frenzy, a one day celebration and 2 weeks of relaxation… We did it!

Life as a married couple has been good to us so far. We’d just like to say a final thanks to everyone who made our wedding the most beautiful and blissful day a couple could wish for. Not to mention all the fun we had! We couldn’t ask for a better start to a long happy life together.

Worst Movies of all Time

Rachel and I went to go see Spiderman 3 with her brother Michael on Sunday. The action was superb, and the story was even pretty good but the dialog left something to be desired and what in the world is with the mini-musical in the middle? The movie could have been an hour shorter without the musical crap and without the cliche dialog lines and it would have been a 10. The movie gets a .1 out of a possible 10. I will say that the Sandman and Venom were awesome but beyond the action with said characters, there’s nothing keeping this movie afloat. I even felt that some of the special effects early on in the movie felt a bit shaky.

As a result, I’ve updated my Worst Movies of all Time list to include:

  1. The Talented Mr Ripley
  2. Citizen Kane (this movie is only good given the context, stand alone its terrible. It makes the worst list because it’s supposed to be such a classic)
  3. Spider Man 3

What makes me really sad is that I didn’t even go into this movie with high expectations and get disappointed like normal. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot and it didn’t disappoint.
