Planning our 3 week Hiatus

Rachel’s Brother George lives in Portland Oregon and he’s getting married in July (the 11th to be exact).  Since we’ll be trekking all the way across the country for the big event we’re planning on making a vacation of it.  We’ll be staying in the Pacific Northwest for 3 weeks.  The rough itinerary is Portland for about a week, Glacier National Park for about a week, Seattle for a few days and then back to Portland to fly home. Beyond that we have no idea.

We’re trying to plan as little as possible and just wing it but we’ve put together a tentative map of the route we might take and the places we want to see.

We don’t want to plan our trip but we do want ideas.  We’ve never been to the west coast or the pacific northwest and we need to know the cool stuff to do or see.  If you have been to this part of the country, please let us know what places you enjoyed (and those you didn’t) so we can add it to our list!

Alaska in 1999

I let everyone know a while ago that my parents took a trip to Alaska last summer. What I didn’t tell you is my dad was already there. Back in 1999 on our way to Mount Rushmore, my father decided to take a little detour and ended up in Alaska. Kind of a long detour, especially since it was a road trip. Good thing it was only the Alaska section of the parking lot for the Mall of America. Does this mean there are 50 Mall of America’s parking sections? Found the photographic proof.

Ryan's Wake

A Beer At Ryan’s WakeFriday we went to Ryan’s Wake. No no Ryan is fine, This isn’t some sadistic planning session. It’s just the name of a bar in Troy. On our way to New Hampshire we stopped over in Troy to visit my good friend Emily. As it turns out some of Emily’s other friends were visiting this weekend too so we got to meet them as well. We had a great night and we were glad for the place to stay for the night. Thanks Emily!

Mets 1 Yankees 0

Friday I drove down to Poughkeepsie to see Charles for his birthday. After arriving we went straight to the city to meet some friends of his and goto the Mets game. The Mets won. The game had nothing to do with the Yankees I just like to taunt Yankee fans. After the game we met up with Sanjay for a lesson in expensive drinking and a place to stay.

Saturday Charles headed back to Poughkeepsie while I headed to the International Car Show with Sanjay. Check out the 2008 Ferrari for a sample. I’ll post a link to the whole gallery once the photo gallery comes back up. After the car show we met my Brother for sushi at Lan and had probably the best sushi I’ve ever had. After dinner my brother and I went to one of NYC’s oldest pubs McSorley’s for some Beers. They only give you two options, Light or Dark McSorley’s and when you order a drink they always give you 2 instead of 1. After that it was time to catch the train back to Poughkeepsie so we said our good byes and headed out.

That’s my trip in a nutshell.
